Online advertising in the UK continues to grow, despite the economic downturn

PricewaterhouseCoopers reports that UK online advertising will grow by 20% in 2008, continuing the movement away from TV and print. This is a reduction from 38% in 2007, due to the economic slowdown.

The search section of UK online advertising will however increase by 30% in 2008.

Online classifieds spend for property and recruitment is not strong, however it will be boosted by growth in the automotive and dating sectors, which should grow about 20% in 2008.

Display advertising spend is also expected to be lower in 2008, although it will still be up by between 10% and 15% year on 2007.

The movement from TV and print continues with more people being time poor, being informed and entertained by online sources and using the traditional media forms progressively less often.

Online games and You Tube for entertainment, Google Alert and similar services for selected news – these new alternatives mean old media is less used and less relevant to consumers.

As the online advertising spend increase reflects additional online usage, our UK Online Business Directory with 1.6 million businesses listed and 2.5 million pages indexed on Google, is enjoying increasing popularity, with qualified prospects being delivered to the businesses, with zero cost to them.
