Google announced that from May, 2008 any advertiser will be able to bid on 'trademarked single words' for search terms in the UK and Ireland.
Previously, companies could ask Google to protect their single word trademarks from rival bids. The US lifted this trademark policy four years ago.
Over 90 per cent of the UK's top 100 searches contained trademarks, while in the US, 40 per cent of the US's top 100 trademark queries contained competitor listings in the results.
This suggests that competitors actually find it difficult to appear against competitor terms, due to the Quality Score Index where trademark owners have the clear advantage.Your trademark names can be indexed in Googles organic listing when you participate in our Local Search and Business Directory in the UK.
